Première Expédition - First Road Trip

Grand Canyon

Je sais que ça fait une quinzaine de jours qu'il n'y a pas eu de nouvelles sur le blog, mais l'absence peut être justifiée. Le premier weekend nous avons assisté à un nouveau match de football américain à domicile (record de points battu, victoire 77-13), puis il y a eu les traditionnelles soirées avec les américains, et enfin (oui je ne suis pas totalement en vacances) les examens de fin de mois. Les résultats étant plutôt bons, nous sommes donc partis pour faire notre premier vrai road trip dans le nord de l'Arizona. Au programme, route de montagne pour visiter les parcs nationaux sur la route (Tonto Forest, Kaibab Forest) puis Grand Canyon le samedi et pour finir Monument Valley le dimanche avec un passage par le parc de Sedona. Le tout ponctué par deux nuits à Flagstaff.

Il n'y a pas beaucoup de choses à dire, les photos racontent déjà tout ! Mais un petit résumé rapide s'impose. Le weekend nous a offert près de 1900 km en voiture, plus de 20 km de randonnée, environ 900 photos (après avoir trié les photos doublons, les inutiles et les floues), beaucoup de fous rires et énormément d'étoiles dans les yeux.

Je remercie également mes copilotes pour les photos réalisées en voiture !

I know it's been a couple of weeks there has been no news on the blog, but the absence can be justified. The first weekend we were present at a new football home game (beat points' record, 77-13 victory), then there were traditionals parties with American, and finally (yes I'm not totally on holiday) the month-end exams. The results are pretty good, so we left for our first real road trip in northern Arizona. The program includes mountain road to visit the national park on the road (Tonto Forest, Kaibab Forest), then Grand Canyon on Saturday, and finally Monument Valley on Sunday with a passage by the Sedona Park. All punctuated by two nights at Flagstaff.

There are not many things to say, the pictures already talking about everything ! But a quick summary is required. The weekend offered us almost 1200 miles by car, more than 15 miles of hiking, about 900 pictures (after sorting duplicate photos, unnecessary and unclear), lots of laughs and a lot of starry-eyed.

Quelques photos de notre trajet de vendredi soir. Un parc magnifique traversé par une route tout aussi belle. Le Kaibab Park n'est pas en photo, la nuit et le sommeil ont eu raison de mes compagnons de route.

Samedi 7h00, décollage pour le Grand Canyon. Au programme, découverte de l'une des randonnées les plus sympathiques du domaine sud (le domaine nord imposait un allongement de près de 500 km sur notre feuille de route) et coucher de soleil sur le parc.

Pour la randonnée, 16 km, 5h d'efforts et de plaisir pour descendre au fond du canyon, près de 2000 m de dénivelés.

Saturday 7:00 am, take-off to the Grand Canyon. The program includes discovery of one of the friendliest South hiking area (the area north imposed a lengthening of nearly 500 km on our roadmap) and sunset on the park.

For hiking, 9.5 miles, 5 hours of effort and fun to go down to the canyon floor, almost 6500 ft of elevation changes.

Dimanche 10h00, Monument Valley se dessine devant nous. Après 3h de route nous atteignons un endroit surréaliste, les lumières sont toutes plus magnifiques les unes que les autres, les paysages sublimes. Indescriptibles. Le territoire Navajo et l'Utah sont à nous maintenant, et nous nous élançons pour un parcours sur piste de 25 km au beau milieu du parc..

Sunday 10:00 am, Monument Valley is emerging before us. After 3 hours drive we reach a surreal place, the lights are all more beautiful than each other, the sublime landscapes. Indescribable. The Navajo territory and Utah are ours now, and we rushed forward us for a17 miles trails on tracks in the middle of the park ..
